New Network Master Unit - PC or Server Connection via LAN

Thin client compatible, reduces cable clutter, keeps down installation costs

Previously the NMU required a serial or USB cable connection to the host PC for delivering temperature and related data. The newly activated port can reduce cable clutter in the monitoring office; improve flexibility and reduce costs when installing a Monika Pathfinder RF network.

Until now, the Monika NMU must be positioned adjacent to a host PC. The USB or serial connection requires a dedicated cable, which can result in office clutter and operational vulnerability. Connection to the PC via the LAN can eliminate this requirement and hence improve operational efficiency.

Further the NMU can now be sited away from a host PC, which is normally office based. This may allow the use of existing data points, potentially eliminating the need for network engineering when retro-fitting a Monika system.

Recent developments in networking architecture have seen an increase in the number of 'thin client' solutions such as Citrix being operated by clients. In these circumstances a host PC is not always available on the LAN. The new TCP/IP port enables the NMU to operate with these architectures. Clients who have been forced to use a stand-alone PC can now dispose of this and gain the benefit of multiple workstation access.
